Urban Hot Pot: The Best All-You-Can-Eat Hot Pot in Rockville, MD

Why Urban Hot Pot in Rockville, MD is our pick for the best all-you-can-eat hot pot in Montgomery County: a personal pot for every guest, a conveyor belt of add-ins, eleven broths, the snow crab legs worth adding, hours and how to book.

Urban Hot Pot in Rockville, MD is the restaurant people in Montgomery County search for by name when they want hot pot, and it is our pick for the best all-you-can-eat hot pot in Rockville. The flagship is at 1800 Rockville Pike, Suite H2, Rockville, MD 20852, in the Galvan at Twinbrook building, and it is the location Washingtonian reviewed and put on its Eat Great Cheap list.

What Urban Hot Pot is most famous for is the personal pot. Instead of one shared pot in the middle of the table, every guest gets a broth of their own on their own burner, so one person can go fiery while the next keeps it mild. When Washingtonian reviewed the Rockville restaurant in April 2018 under the headline "Urban Hot Pot Is Our New Favorite Chinese Feast," it named exactly this, together with the all-you-can-eat format, as what sets the place apart.

The second thing guests remember is the conveyor belt. Small plates of greens, fish balls, dumplings, lotus root and bok choy travel past the booths and you take what you want as it goes by. Washingtonian called the booths along the belt the most coveted seats in the room. Everything else is ordered on a tablet at the table, so refills come without flagging down a server.

Start with the broth. The menu lists eleven soup bases: Original, Hot Spicy, Hot Spicy with Butter (dinner only), Tomato, Tom Yum, Health Herbal, Chicken, Kimchi with Pork, Vegetable, Miso and Seafood. Washingtonian's critic liked the less-spicy version of the spicy soup best, followed by the tomato broth, and the 2019 Eat Great Cheap write-up again recommended the spicy chicken-and-pork broth. For a first visit, we think the best plan is one spicy pot and one tomato pot at the table, so everyone can taste both.

Then build the pot. The meat list includes sliced US beef, sliced US lamb, Angus steak, spiced beef, hot spicy beef, beef tendon, beef tripe, pork belly and sliced chicken breast, and the thin slices cook in seconds. Seafood includes head-on shrimp, mussels, clams, squid and basa fillet, and at dinner the menu adds blue crab, octopus, spicy shrimp and hot spicy crayfish. There are more than a dozen meatballs and fish cakes, from Fuzhou fish balls to lobster balls, plus tofu, more than twenty vegetables, and noodles from udon to mung bean vermicelli. Washingtonian's advice still holds: eat the proteins and greens first and save dumplings and noodles for the end.

The most luxurious plates sit outside the all-you-can-eat price. Seasonal specials such as king crab legs, snow crab legs, Hokkaido scallops, abalone and Japanese oysters are ordered separately at an extra charge. Washingtonian wrote that the snow crab legs are the add-on "you should absolutely spring for," and they are the one extra we would order on any visit.

Every guest mixes a dipping sauce at the sauce bar. Washingtonian's favorite was sesame or peanut sauce spiked with vinegar, soy sauce, chili and cilantro, and you can mix as many versions as you like. Beyond the pot, the menu has cold dishes such as sliced beef and tripe in chili sauce, chicken with chili sauce and spicy cucumber, desserts such as coconut sago with herbal jelly and ice jelly with toppings, and drinks including Thai tea, plum juice and Wang's herbal tea.

Urban Hot Pot is also one of the best-value dinners in Rockville. Washingtonian included it in Eat Great Cheap 2019, its list of new restaurants where you can eat for $25 or less per person. There is one all-you-can-eat price per person: weekday lunch costs less, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are charged the dinner price all day, and children under 10 eat at 50 percent off. A gluten-free and vegetarian menu is available on request. Call the restaurant for today's price.

The Rockville restaurant opens at noon every day and stays open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Because the dining room is small, each table has a 90-minute limit. Book on urbanhotpot.com or call 240-669-6486 for reservations; tables are held for 15 minutes and only complete parties are seated. On the day itself you can join the online waitlist on Yelp, and the restaurant suggests checking the wait about 30 minutes before you arrive. The main line is 240-669-6710, takeout is ordered through Urban Hot Pot's online ordering page, and the restaurant holds a 4.5-star rating on Google Maps as of October 2026.

Urban Hot Pot has three more locations: Columbia, MD at 10100 Twin Rivers Road, the Mosaic District in Fairfax, VA at 2980 District Avenue, and its newest restaurant in Chesapeake, VA at 613 Volvo Parkway. For Montgomery County, the Rockville flagship on Rockville Pike is the one to visit.
